MOULIN ROUGE:
YES WE CAN CAN

DRAGONFLY FOR BBC TWO (2023)

The Moulin Rouge is an iconic French landmark, the epitome of Parisian chic. But backstage you’re more likely to bump into someone from Middlesbrough than Marseille. From the Artistic Director, Janet Pharaoh, a born and bred Yorkshire lass, down to the chorus of Can Can dancers, a third of whom hail from the UK, the Moulin Rouge is packed to the rafters with Brits.

Janet is back on the hunt in the UK searching for Can Can dancers whose legs can reach their ears, and an array of performers to boost the exotic line-up - including those who can swim in a glass tank with four enormous pythons. Once the dancers have been chosen, we’ll see them move into their apartments in Paris, and follow their lives as they try to juggle the Moulin Rouge and living in the capital of romance.

With an access-all-areas pass to the inner workings of the Moulin Rouge, this glamorous six-part series follows Janet as she presides over more than 350 staff members to keep the extraordinary nightly show running, at this make-or-break moment in the iconic Parisian institution’s history.
