Christian is an award-winning documentary director from North West England, renowned for his authentic, personal storytelling. For over a decade, his films have illuminated communities, institutions, and subcultures—past and present—blending sensitivity, style, and humour to earn widespread acclaim.
Among his standout achievements is the RTS (Royal Television Society) Award for *Nail Bar Boys* (BBC, 2021), a gripping series secured through the fiercely competitive Northern Voice scheme (2020). This project showcased his knack for uncovering hidden stories and his dedication to spotlighting vital social issues. Before that, Christian made his mark with *The Cavern Club: The Beat Goes On* (2019), his first major commission while heading the Factual department at LA Productions—an indie powerhouse behind Jimmy McGovern’s iconic works. Presented by Paul McGann (*Doctor Who*, *Withnail and I*), this archive-rich film took viewers on an immersive dive into Liverpool’s legendary music scene, captivating audiences across 40 countries and premiering in Beverly Hills.
Christian’s musical lens sharpened with *Jazz UK: Spitting Fire* (BBC Four, 2022), a vibrant exploration of Britain’s young jazz revolutionaries. Blending genres and improvisation, these artists are redefining the sound—and the film’s warm reception has rippled through the UK and European music scenes, now thrilling festival crowds in Japan and South Africa.
Recently, Christian traded Liverpool for Paris, filming an observational BBC2 series at the Moulin Rouge. Closer to home, he wrapped a poignant Channel 4 documentary on the XL Bully ban, set to air in August 2024. With a portfolio as diverse as it is impactful, Christian crafts thought-provoking, emotionally resonant stories that bridge cultures and leave a lasting impression.
